Allen R. Cota, 55

He was a retired Derby Police Officer.

Allen R. Cota, 55, beloved husband of Renee Mallette-Cota, of Derby, peacefully entered into eternal rest early Monday morning November 16, 2009 at the Griffin Hospital in Derby following a 19 month courageous battle with cancer. 

Mr. Cota was born in Derby on January 12, 1954 son of the late Andrew L. and Sylvia Hakey Cota Sr. 

A lifelong resident of Derby, he was employed as a police officer for the city of Derby for 25 years until his retirement in 2008. He served as the department’s liaison officer and was the head of the accident reconstruction team. Allen enjoyed writing fiction novels and short stories, playing chess, weekend get aways, and fall Sunday afternoon football games with family and friends. 

Besides his wife Renee, he is survived by a son Anthony Cota of Derby, a step-son Justin Garcia of Seymour, a daughter Carol Tison of Waterbury, 2 brothers, retired City of Derby Police Chief, Andrew L. Cota Jr. and his wife Jean of Derby and Timothy Cota of Speedway, Indiana, 2 sisters, Sheila Kershaw and her husband Donald of Naugatuck, and Arlene Greco and her husband Thomas of Derby, a granddaughter, Samantha Cota of Derby, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, fellow officers, and friends. 

Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral service at 7 p.m. Thursday Nov. 19, in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. 

Visiting hours will also be held on Thursday from 4:00 pm until the service begins. Burial will be private.
