Andrew J. Mendyk Sr., 92, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on January 27, 2011, at the Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was the beloved husband of the late Michalina Gagliardi Mendyk.
Mr. Mendyk was born in Derby on September 25, 1918, son of the late Martin and Justina Byczek Mendyk. A resident of Ansonia since he was married, Andrew was employed as a press operator at the former B.F. Goodrich in Shelton and later as a security guard at Spongex in Shelton. He was a communicant of the St. Joseph’s Church in Ansonia and a member of the St. Sebastian Men’s Club and the Joseph A. Doyle Senior Center both in Ansonia. Andy was an avid fan of UConn women’s basketball, NY Yankees and NY Giants and enjoyed polka’s and playing the harmonica.
He is survived by a son Andrew J. Mendyk Jr. of Ansonia, 2 daughters, Sandra L. Mendyk of Ansonia and Cynthia R. Densmore of Claremont, NH, a sister Florence Hallergen of Derby, grandchildren, Lauren Marganski of Naugatuck, Andrea Polin and Melissa Ash of Lakeland, FL, Darryl Mendyk of St. Mary’s, GA, and Jacqueline Alley of New Milford, 7 great-grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, Savannah Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Louis, Ignatius, Thomas, and Frederick Mendyk and sisters, Agnes and Rose Mendyk, Mary Griffin, Fay Sadick, and Victoria Puro, and a granddaughter, Michelle Lynn Valko.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend his memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday February 1, 2011, at 11:00 am (Meeting Directly) at St. Joseph’s Church, 32 Jewett Street in Ansonia. Inurnment will immediately follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Derby. Per Andrew’s request, there will be no calling hours.
