Angelo J. Maffeo

Angelo J. Maffeo, 90, husband of the late Geraldine E. Boles Maffeo, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday Sept. 25, 2009 at the Hilltop Health Center in Ansonia. 

Mr. Maffeo was born in Ansonia on April 12, 1919 son of the late Alexander and Nicolina Coppola Maffeo. 

A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he was the owner of the former Esquire Cigar Shop on Main Street in Ansonia for many years until his retirement. A veteran of WWII, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He was a communicant of the Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia and a member of its Catholic Men’s Club. Angelo was also a member of the former Ritz Boys Club in Ansonia. 

He is survived by two sons, Joseph A. Maffeo and his wife Deborah of Oxford and Dennis A. Maffeo of Ansonia, a daughter Sandra Vicari and her husband Salvatore of Morris, a brother Louis A. Maffeo of Ansonia, a sister Phyllis Costantino of Shelton, three grandchildren, Justin Maffeo of Southbury, Christine Maffeo of Morris, and Jonathan Maffeo of Ansonia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Stephen Maffeo and a sister Rose Barone. 

Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral on Tuesday Sept. 29, 2009 at 9:15am from the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at the Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. 

Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby. 

Visiting hours will be held on Monday Sept. 28, 2009 from 4 – 7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FH. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 27 Allendale Dr., North Haven, CT 06473 or through the funeral home.
