With great sadness, our family announces the passing of Angelo M. Vicari, Jr., better known as “Butch,” a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend of all those whose lives he touched. Butch, aged 79, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, in his home in Shelton, CT on December 5, 2023, after battling numerous serious health issues for the past three years.
Butch was born on September 2, 1944, to the late Louise Onofrio Vicari and Angelo M. Vicari, Sr. in Derby, CT. After attending Derby schools and trying out several professions that did not suit him, he ended up in the automotive business. Beginning as a parts manager and ending up in sales, his likeability and honesty led to a successful career. Butch spent several years selling cars in Vermont and New Hampshire and then many productive years at Dworkin Chevrolet of Derby. He was a proud past member of the U.S. Air Force National Guard.
Butch always had a twinkle in his eye, loved to dance, have a good time and vacationing, especially at all-inclusive resorts. He was an avid gardener and a great cook, although he never followed a recipe. Butch had a special affinity for horses and dogs, playing the sax and drums, loved the Yankees and a good cigar. More than anything else he loved and was proud of his family.
In addition to his beloved wife of 27 years, Crystal Babin, he leaves behind his two devoted children, Allison Babin (husband T.J. Fennell), and Michael Babin (wife Jennifer), and his cherished granddaughter, Molly Babin. Other survivors include his sister, Theresa Mongillo and her four children (his very special nieces and nephew who spent many happy times with him at his farm in Vermont), their spouses and their children. On Crystal’s side, he will be missed by her three siblings, Claudia Dapp (husband John), Scott Day (wife Christine), and Cindy Baer (husband Jack), and all their children (his other beloved nieces and nephew), and his mother-in-law, Evelyn Day. He also leaves behind his last and favorite dog, Chewy, who was his adoring and constant companion. We hope that memories of happy times and much laughter with Butch will be a blessing and comfort to all.
Please join Butch’s family for a celebration of life service at 12 pm at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, CT on Sunday, December 10. Friends may visit prior to the service starting at 11 am.
The family kindly requests that people not send flowers, but if they would like to honor Butch, donations may be made in his memory to the CT Humane Society (cthumane.org.) or Griffin Hospital (griffinhealth.org) and its staff who provided great compassion and care to him and his family.
