Anthony D. “Bucky” Calcagni Sr.

Anthony D. Bucky” Calcagni Sr., age 86, a resident of Ansonia since 1961, peacefully entered into eternal rest on January 29, 2021, at Griffin Hospital, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 58 years to the late Barbara Gabriel Calcagni. 

Mr. Calcagni was born in Stepney, CT on May 22, 1934, son of the late Avenerio and Seraphina Bazzano Calcagni. He began working on an ice delivery truck at age 12 and following high school proudly and honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired as Operations Manager for Wonder Bread in Waterbury after many years. He was also employed in his earlier years at the former Housatonic Lumber in Derby and as a bartender at the former Lori’s Restaurant in Derby. Bucky was a generous man who quietly gave to the less fortunate. He loved hunting in Vermont with the Vaccaro and Smith families where they shared many fun and memorable times at their cabin. Bucky was a member of the Lafayette Club in Derby and enjoyed cooking Italian food for his family, cheering on the UConn Lady Huskies and playing the slots at Mohegan Sun Casino. 

He leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Anthony D. Calcagni Jr. (Elaine) of Durham, William Calcagni (Beverly) of Seymour and Robert Calcagni of Ansonia, a daughter, Laura Rauch (Robert) of Ansonia, grandchildren, Mary Provencher (Jake) of New Hampshire, Matthew Calcagni of Durham, Virginia Riccio (Michael) of Derby and Samantha Tupka (Frank) of East Haven, great-grandson, Oliver Benjamin Provencher, sister, Rosemary Musante (Joseph) of Oxford and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Bernardino Calcagni and sister, Columbia and Claudia Calcagni. 

Due to the pandemic, the family has chosen to have a private funeral service followed by United States Army military honors and interment in Mount Saint Peter Cemetery in Derby.
