Anthony J. Coscia, of Derby entered into rest on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the age of 91.
He was the beloved husband of 46 years to the late Ann (Vicidomino) Coscia.
Mr. Coscia was born in Shelton on April 30, 1922 son of the late John and Antoinette (Cairella) Coscia.
Anthony served his country faithfully in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He served at many domestic air bases and aided in sending and receiving thousands of planes as a member of the ground force corps.
He worked for Avco Lycoming as an expediter for over 30 years until his retirement in 1983.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Derby where he served as an usher for over 35 years. He was also an active member of the St. Mary’s Men’s Club where he served as the recording secretary for many years.
Anthony received the Saint Joseph’s Medal of Honor for his many years of dedication he so reverently gave to his parish.
He was an avid sports fan and an active member of the “Silver Sluggers” Baseball Club which he faithfully attended every Thursday at the Derby Public Library. He was a devoted Yankee fan, attended many games throughout the years and watched players like Joe DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig, Whitey Ford and many others play the “greatest game ever.”
Anthony had also been recognized by the Derby High School Frank Albarella Committee for being the last of the original “Sparrows.” He loved telling jokes and served as Master of Ceremonies for many retirement parties.
Anthony will always be remembered for his warm friendly smile, endearing love, incredible devotion, and heartfelt kindness he showed to his family and friends.
Mr. Coscia is the loving father of Annette McCabe, John Coscia, and Kathleen Moscato.
He is also survived by his four grandchildren Shannon and Christopher McCabe and Joshua and Elliott Moscato whom he truly adored and his brother, John Coscia of North Fort Myers, Florida and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters Catherine Persico, Irene Garofalo, and his twin sister, Philomena Lavorgna and his brother, Andrew “Midge” Coscia.
Friends may greet his family on Friday from 3 to 7 pm at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby.
His funeral will leave the funeral home on Saturday at 8:30 am for a mass of Christian burial at St. Mary’s Church at 9:00 am. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Saint Peter’s Cemetery in Derby.
