Anthony J. “A.J.” Barton, Sr., age 67, unexpectedly entered into eternal rest on April 15, 2022, at Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was the loving husband of Michele R. Palumbo Barton.
A.J. was born in Johnson City, New York on September 18, 1954, son of the late Wallace E. and Marie A. Marra Barton. He was a self-employed carpenter. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. A great athlete, A.J. played professional and semi-professional football and also played in softball leagues throughout the Valley. He loved people and enjoyed coaching football, basketball, baseball and softball, all in Ansonia. A.J. also liked singing karaoke and was the life of the party. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants, New York Yankees and the Ansonia Chargers.
In addition to his wife Michele, he leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Michael A. Barton and Eric B. Barton both of Ansonia, Anthony J. Barton Jr. and Benjamin A. Palumbo-Barton both of Waterbury, a daughter, Patricia R. Barton of Ansonia, brothers, Wallace and James Barton (Shirley) of Florida, sister, Linda Shoop (Earl) of Orange, sisters-in-law, Debrann Ames and Joann Riccardi (Davide) of Ansonia and grandchildren, Zackery and Sadie Barton of Ansonia, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Nicholas Barton and a brother-in-law, Carmen Palumbo.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Saturday, April 23, 2022, his funeral will begin at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church, Father Salemi Drive in Ansonia.
