Anthony L. Russo Sr.

Anthony L. Russo Sr., 85, of Derby, formerly of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest on Friday morning August 22, 2014, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann Dzwonczyk Russo.

Mr. Russo was born in Derby on October 29, 1928, son of the late Louis and Molly Sapiento Russo. He grew up in Ansonia and lived in Derby for over 20 years. Tony was a well-known meat cutter and former proprietor of the Hill Street Market in Ansonia for over 35 years. There, he and his family established many relationships that they have all cherished long after his retirement. A proud veteran, he honorably served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church and its Catholic Men’s Club. Tony enjoyed playing cards, solving puzzles and cooking for his family.

He is survived by a son, Anthony L. Russo Jr. of Hamden, two daughters, Rose Gaetano of Ansonia and Diane Kyle of Madison, four sisters, Josephine Fitzpatrick of Beacon Falls, Caroline Criscuolo of Seymour, Antoinette Shpak and Nancy Russo of Ansonia, five grandchildren, Kevin Gaetano of Ansonia, Jessica Stolpp of Newfane, VT, Dawn Christo of Naugatuck, Thomas Kyle of Madison and Brian Gaetano of Ansonia, four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Gregory, Lucas and Makayla and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Rose Hennessey and a son in law, Steven Kyle.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday August 25, 2014, from 5 – 7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 7:00 pm a funeral service in celebration of Tony’s life will take place followed by U.S. Army military honors. Private inurnment will take place in Mt. St. Peter’s Garden Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tony’s family in care of the funeral home.
