Arthur F. Fredericks, Jr.

Arthur F. Fredericks, Jr., age 82, a cherished longtime resident of Derby, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hartford on July 3, 1942, he was the son of the late Arthur and Frances (Nauman) Fredericks.

Arthur, affectionately known as Artie, was a true civil servant. Sworn in on June 13, 1969, he dedicated 29 years of his life to the Derby Police Department. In 1971, he served as a member of the Naugatuck Valley Regional Narcotics Squad, was promoted to Detective on May 13, 1974, and later to Detective Sergeant on April 27, 1984. He retired from the Derby Police Department on January 20, 1998. In addition to his distinguished police career, Arthur was a committed volunteer with Storms Engine Co. from the young age of 15, where he became a fire instructor who trained hundreds of fire fighters sharing his knowledge and love of fighting fires and helping others to all that would listen. He was also a trained EMT IV technician, always ready and willing to help anyone in need. Arthur was a devout Catholic who enjoyed leading people to God. Above all else Arthur cherished his family and greatest joy was spending time with them.

Arthur leaves behind a loving family: His adored wife Tamara Fredericks. His cherished children, Shanna Navarro, Chontal Doggett, Jake Fredericks, Scott Fredericks, Suellen Vail, and Amanda Hutter; his grandchildren, Joseph, Jackson, Sarah, Rebeka, Ryder, Leilani, Lakota, Alaia, Jaelyn, Jaden, and Juliet; and his great-grandchildren, Austin, Ireland, Grayson, Annalise, Georgia, and Olivia, and all of his cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby, on Sunday from 1 to 3 PM. A procession will leave the funeral home on Monday at 10:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Michael’s Church in Derby. Interment will follow at Mt. St. Peters Cemetery, Derby.
