Augustine “Gus” Altomare, age 92, of Derby, entered into eternal rest on December 28, 2022 at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of forty-seven years to Kathleen (Mucherino) Altomare.
He was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on January 27, 1930, son of the late Luigi and Carlotta (Forgione) Altomare. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving his country during the Korean War. He lived in Orange and moved to Derby in 1990. Gus started his career working for M and B Electronics, then AVCO Lycoming.
He finished his career as the head of maintenance for the Town of Branford, but decided to rejoin the workforce after retirement and worked as a greeter for Walmart in Derby, where he loved meeting new people. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Gus was a music lover, especially Jazz and Opera.
In addition to his loving wife Kathleen, Gus is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Frank Altomare and his sister Mary Caccone.
Friends are invited to go directly to St. Mary’s Church, 212 Elizabeth Street, Derby, Connecticut, on Tuesday, January, 3, 2022 at 11:00 am for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby, Connecticut.
