Aurelia J. Caprio, age 94, of Shelton, entered into rest on April 27, 2025, at Griffin Hospital in Derby. She was the devoted wife of the late James Caprio. Aurelia was born in Derby on September 30, 1930, daughter of the late James and Aurelia (Garcia) Ballester, and was a lifelong Shelton resident.
She was a graduate of SHS Class of ‘48, and worked as a clerical secretary. Aurelia enjoyed flower gardening and was an avid reader. She loved music, especially Frank Sinatra, weekly card games with her friends, and Word and Board games at Crosby Commons. She enjoyed arts and crafts and loved to travel. Aurelia was also an avid supporter of UConn Women’s and Men’s Basketball, as well as the Michael Jordan era Chicago Bulls. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family.
She is the beloved mother of James Caprio, Laura Daniels (Daniel Neal), and Nancy Splan (Shawn) and the late Gary Caprio, proud grandmother of Carissa Daniels, Michael Daniels (Carla), Kevin Splan, and Katie Splan, and great-grandmother of Nina, Luca, and Mica Daniels. She is also survived by a special nephew, Richard Moore (Theresa), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and her brother-in-law and was predeceased by her sister, Josephine Moore.
Special thanks and appreciation is extended by the family to the Staff, Nurses, and Chef at Crosby Commons where she thoroughly enjoyed her final years.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Thursday from 9 AM to 10:30 AM. Her procession will leave the parlor for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Joseph Church in Shelton.
