Barbara Jean Griggs Schumacher Ashelman, age 90, entered eternal rest on September 19, 2024, at Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford.
Barbara was born in Columbus, Georgia, on July 9, 1934, daughter of the late Mary “Dolly” Griggs. She was resident of Ansonia for seventy-one years. Barbara was employed as a nurse at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport for thirty years, until her retirement.
She enjoyed watching baseball and was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Christina Nash of Lead, South Dakota, Sharon Sosebee (Dennis) of Derby and Barbara L. Lucas (Lawrence) of Derby, son, Michael W. Griggs, special family friend, Kris Bradley of Seymour, longtime neighbor, Judy Henry, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and several cousins in Alabama.
The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Lord Chamberlain, especially Liz, Kim, Shannon, Kathy, Jasmine, and Jennifer. Per Barbara’s request, her funeral service and burial in Girard Cemetery in Phenix City, Alabama will be private and at the convenience of the family.
