Bernard Zenkus Jr., 70, of Seymour, unexpectedly entered into eternal rest on August 27, 2013, in his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Paula Ann Sacalas Zenkus.
Mr. Zenkus was born in Derby on January 3, 1943, son of the late Bernard and Victoria Matulevich Zenkus. He grew up in Ansonia and resided in Seymour since marrying Paula.
Bernard was employed as a machinist at the former New Haven Copper Co. in Seymour for many years until his retirement. A proud veteran, he honorably served during Vietnam in the US Navy. He enjoyed fishing and was a longtime crafter of Native American art.
He is survived by a loving son, Mark A. Zenkus and his wife Cynthia of Lambertville, NJ, a brother, Gerald Zenkus (Norma) of Seymour, two sisters, Priscilla “Sybil” Balabon (Ronald) of Ansonia and Christine Vizuete (Juan) of Waterbury and several caring nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday August 30, 2013, from 4 – 7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Saturday, friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral at 8:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am at St. Anthony’s Church in Ansonia. Interment with US Navy military honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby.
