Bernice L. Dorso

Bernice L. Dorso, 91, of Derby, peacefully entered into eternal rest on November 8, 2013, at Griffin Hospital, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late James V. Dorso.

Mrs. Dorso was born in Palisade, Nebraska on May 27, 1922, daughter of the late Walter and Leonora Moody Endres. She was a graduate of McCook Junior College in Nebraska. Bernice and her late husband met at a dance while he was stationed in Nebraska. A resident of Derby since 1954, Mrs. Dorso was a communicant of St. Jude’s Church in Derby where she enjoyed volunteering and was a member of its Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Derby and Seymour Senior Centers. 

She is survived by a loving son, Walter J. Dorso of Derby, four loving daughters, Sherry A. Flaherty of Derby, Wendy M. Woodcock (Mark) of Shelton, Faye L. Dorso and Cathy B. Weber (Mark) of FL, two sisters, Veora Erwin (Donald) of CA and Vondalie Robertson (Robert) of WY, cherished grandchildren, Edward J. Flaherty of Italy, Brian Flaherty of Derby, Daniel DiCapua M.D. of Oxford, Michael J. DiCapua of Shelton, Neil Dorso of FL, Lauren Weber M.D., of MD, Joshua Weber of ND, James Weber of FL and Elizabeth Burchfield of FL, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son in law, Edward C. Flaherty.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday November 11, 2013, from 4 – 6 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Tuesday, friends and relatives are invited to attend her funeral at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Jude’s Church in Derby. Entombment will take place in Mt. St. Peter’s Garden Mausoleum in Derby.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Church through the funeral home.
