Biagio DiMartino, age 60, peacefully entered into the arms of our Lord on Saturday morning June 10, 2017, at CT Hospice in Branford with his beloved and devoted wife, Michele, by his side.
Biagio was born in Isnello, Sicily, Italy on August 25, 1956, son of Salvatrice Grisanti DiMartino of Isnello, Sicily and the late Giuseppe DiMartino.
A resident of Ansonia since coming from Italy in 1974, he was employed as a foreman in the construction industry until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Ansonia. Biagio enjoyed gardening and landscaping. He took great pride in his perfectly manicured lawn and would grow a bountiful vegetable garden that he generously shared with his family and friends. He loved the game of soccer, played on numerous teams and enjoyed coaching youth players. He attended two World Cup games. In their thirty years of marriage, he and Michele traveled extensively. Biagio was very proud of his Italian heritage and was an active member of the Sons of Italy in Derby.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Michele Alu DiMartino, sisters, Antoinetta DiMartino (Rosario Cultrara) of Isnello, Sicily, Enza DiMartino (Lorenzo Grisanti) of Palermo, Sicily, and Maria Poehailos (Ronald) of Prospect, Goddaughter and niece, Amanda Poehailos, nieces, Bianca and Erica Poehailos of Prospect, nieces and nephews in Italy, Mario Cultrara (Rita), Giuseppe Cultrara, Nicoletta Grisanti (Nino) and Emanuela Grisanti, great-nephew, Gabrielle Cultrara, Goddaughter, Maria Onofrio of Woodbridge and many loving cousins and good friends, who are like family. From the bottom of Michele’s heart, she thanks the doctors, nurses and staff for their outstanding care, compassion and support during Biagio’s illness. They include, Dr. Joseph Cardinale, Dr. Jeffrey Orell, Dr. Kenneth Mancher, Dr. Cristina Tamasdan, Mary Ann Fieffer, APRN, Hospice CanSupport Team and CT Hospice.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday June 13, 2017, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Wednesday, relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral at 1:00 pm (PLEASE MEET DIRECTLY) at St. Joseph Church, 32 Jewett Street in Ansonia, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will immediately follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.
