Carl J. Sylvester, age 91, of Shelton, entered into rest on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. He is the beloved husband of 69 years of Esther (Pagliaro) Sylvester. Carl was born in Derby on June 24, 1933, son of the late Carl A. and Margaret (Onofrio) Sylvester, and was a lifelong Shelton resident.
Carl had a long and distinguished career at Sikorsky Aircraft, where he retired as Assistant Vice President of Engineering after 43 years of service. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Sikorsky Credit Union for over a decade. Carl was a longtime lector at St. Joseph Church and served as a Boy Scout Leader.
He was an avid and accomplished runner and competed into his eighties. Carl was also a skilled water color painter. He loved food, and cherished spending time with his family.
He is the beloved father of Rose Linebarger, Carole Sylvester (Brenda Zaprzalka), and the late Donna Curran, proud grandfather of Theresa Curran, Carl Curran (Karina Hume), MaryAnn Perez (Brandon), and Joseph Linebarger, and great-grandfather of Dahlia Curran and Owen Perez. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Sylvester.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM. On Monday his procession will leave the parlor at 9:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Margaret Mary Church in Shelton. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
