Carmen J. Sicilia, age 97, peacefully entered into eternal rest on March 28, 2021, in the comfort of his own home. He was the beloved husband of Charlene Hooper Sicilia.
Mr. Sicilia was born in Derby on June 30, 1923, son of the late Joseph C. and Mary Tucci Sicilia. A lifelong resident of Derby, Carmen made his living as a self-employed paving contractor with his company, C.J. Sicilia Trucking and Paving. He was a proud veteran having honorably served with the United States Navy in WW2. Carmen was also a longtime member of the Paugassett Hook and Ladder Company No. 4, in Derby, where he served as past captain. He had a love for all sports and especially enjoyed watching his NY Yankees play.
In addition to his wife Char, Carmen leaves to cherish his memory, a loving daughter, Jeanne Connors (Bill Wilber) of Shelton, a son, Mark Awalt of Derby, former daughter in law, Shari Awalt of Oxford, granddaughters, Kristina Walton (Tyrell) of Oxford and Amanda Gittings of Oxford, great grandchildren, Alexa, Lilly, Gabriella, Coby, Avery, and Jason, niece, Sylvia Fuoco Ponzo of Ansonia, great-niece, Gina Marie McKay and great-great-niece, Angelina M. McKenna of Derby. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph C. Sicilia, Jr., sisters, Virginia DiCamillo, Savina Fuoco and Jeanette Mitchell and a nephew, Joseph Sicilia.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at 10:00 am (meeting directly) at Holy Rosary Church, 10 Father Salemi Drive in Ansonia, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Masks are required in Church as well as social distancing. Interment with full Military Honors will immediately follow in St. Michaels Cemetery in Derby. Due to the pandemic, there will be no public calling hours.
