Catherine Stack Budrow

Catherine Stack Budrow, age 84 of Oxford, beloved wife of Russell Budrow, entered peaceful rest on Wednesday, November 10, 2021in the exact place of her birth, St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT. Born in Waterbury on July 3, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jane Stack.

In many ways Catherine’s full and fulfilling life was a throwback to simpler times. Catherine’s childhood memories were of growing up on the same block in Waterbury as her extended family, not uncommon in those days, but unusual today. They loved each other deeply and looked after each other and their children; they truly had each others’ backs. It was a tight knit group, and for the most part as time passed the family stayed in the Waterbury area and remained extremely close.

Catherine, who lived much of her adult life in nearby Oxford where she raised her two children, had her own career and worked most of her adult life even when it was less than fashionable. She was nothing if not a worker — Catherine worked very hard at raising her two fine children, Cheryl and David, and she worked equally hard and successfully at being a good person and a faithful and devoted friend. Catherine was intellectually curious and an avid reader and learner. She was a strong and observant Catholic who attended Mass at St. Thomas in Oxford for many years, and that strong spiritual connection was front and center in her life. That connection helped shape Catherine’s admirable values and her great kindness in her relationships with others.

Catherine in her later years worked hard at caring for her beloved husband Russell Budrow. They had a wonderfully long and happy marriage and Cathy and Russ were each others’ best friends.

In addition to her husband, Catherine leaves behind her two loving children, Cheryl Sonick (John Hursh) of Fairfield, and David Ives (Lee) of Oxford; grandchildren Rebecca and Jennifer Sonick, and David, Alyssa, and Brandon Ives, as well as her incredibly close sisters, Mary Kearney of Maine (and her four children,) Ellen Cerreta (David) of Huntington, and Patricia Stack of Waterbury. Catherine was predeceased by a brother, Dennis Stack of Waterbury.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 11am DIRECTLY in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Rd., Oxford, CT 06478. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Catherine preferred that no gifts or donations be offered. The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour, CT 06483 has been entrusted with her services.
