Charles R. Christensen, age 88, of Derby entered into rest on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at his home under the care of his loving family, who were by his side. He was the devoted husband of the late Regina (Hines) Christensen.
Mr. Christensen was born in Derby on November 19, 1924, son of the late Charles B. and Emma (Kordasky) Christensen and was a lifelong Derby resident.
He was Corporal in the Medical Division of the U.S. Army serving in the European Operation during World War II. He was a PBX installer at AT&T for 35 years until his retirement at the age of 58. After his retirement, he was a bus driver for the Derby School System and a Deputy Fire Marshall in Derby. Most of all, he enjoyed his retirement and spending time with his family.
Mr. Christensen was an usher, council member, treasurer, choir member and a custodian at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Shelton. During his volunteer firefighter career, he was a 67-year member and Captain of the Hotchkiss Hose Company #1, and Chief of the Derby Fire Department. He was a member of the Valley Fire Chiefs, New Haven County Fire Chiefs, CT Fire Chief Association, CT Firefighters and CT Fire Marshall Association.
Mr. Christensen is the loving father of Linda Dalton (Robert), Patricia Grant, Regina Walsh (Stephen) and Marilyn Saccu (John) and beloved grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Debra Findore and sister, Marjorie Christensen.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby CT 06418. On Thursday, his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. His burial with full military honors will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery.
