Charles W. “Sonney” Gladding

Charles W. Sonney” Gladding, 65, of Seymour, peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 11, 2011, at CT Hospice in Branford, following a short illness. 

Mr. Gladding was born in Derby on August 14, 1946, son of the late William L. and Sophie Bashura Gladding. A prior resident of Ansonia for 64 years, he was a graduate of Ansonia High School in 1963. He then attended Stone College in New Haven where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Following college, Sonney served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he was employed as a materials handler at Spongex in Shelton for 32 years until his retirement. Sonney was an avid fisherman and a fan of all sports, especially the NY Giants, Boston Red Sox, and UConn Women’s Basketball. He was a member of the Central Subalpi Club in Ansonia. 

He is survived by his loving twin sister, Arlene A. Rannings and her husband James of Seymour, special uncle, Earl Gladding of Seymour, and several cousins and friends. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Sonney’s funeral and celebration of his life on Thursday December 15, 2011, at 10:00 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Interment with U.S. Army military honors will follow in the family plot in Union Cemetery in Seymour. Visiting hours will be held on WEDNESDAY from 5 – 7 pm.
