Christine F. Halpin, 94, a resident of Ansonia since 1963, peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 14, 2016, at the home of her son, Frank, following a short illness. She was the beloved wife of the late George A. Halpin.
Mrs. Halpin was born in Erbendorf, Germany on July 11, 1921, daughter of the late Max and Juliana Lehner Bloch. Christine earned her master’s degree from the University of Munich in Germany. She majored in foreign language, including, German, Japanese, and French, which she spoke fluently. She was employed as a teacher at Southern Connecticut State University and was a private tutor of the German language. Mrs. Halpin was a devoted communicant of St. Joseph Church in Ansonia and an active member of its Women’s Guild. She had a great love for music and reading and was a member of the Naugatuck Valley Ecumenical Choir and the moderator of the German Book Club in Ansonia. She was a long time member of the Ansonia YMCA, where she enjoyed swimming each day. She also enjoyed traveling and the outdoors.
She is survived by loving sons, John B. Halpin (Dorothy) of Stoneham, MA, Frank A. Halpin (Laura) of Ansonia and Thomas G. Halpin (Sharon) of New Fairfield, cherished grandchildren, Nicole Trimarchi (Michael) and Andrew Halpin (Tina) of Ansonia, Julianne Halpin of W. Hartford, Alan Halpin of Torrington and Benjamin Halpin of Providence, great grandchildren, Bryce and Bailey of Ansonia and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Roswitha Holzer.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Saturday February 20, 2016, at 11:30 am at St. Joseph Church, 32 Jewett Street in Ansonia for a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. There will be no visiting hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church Women’s Guild through the church.
