Cindy Newberg-Iorfino

My battle has ended but the war is not over” – On September 10th, 2024 Cindy Newberg-Iorfino passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, after 3+ years into her Cancer Journey.

Her body may have succumbed, but her spirit lives on, hoping to continue to be an example for doctors and researchers to work with.

Cindy was born to Elaine and the late Art Newberg. She leaves behind her husband of nearly 37 years, Sal Iorfino, her daughters, Danielle (Anthony Lucci) and Katie. She also leaves her mom, Elaine, sister, Rose Ann & Tom Misencik, Sister in law Kathryn (Kitty) Newberg, Sister and Brother in-laws Robert & Fortunata Koellmer, Mary & Paul Bialy, Joseph & Christine Iorfino, her mother in-law Michelina Iorfino and many loving nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many life-long friends, all who were a source of love, strength and inspiration for so many years.

Cindy worked as a professional photographer for many years with Jack Stock Studio in Shelton. She was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom when her daughters came along. She was active in the Long Hill School PTO and Girl Scouts, of which she was still a member. She cherished her role as troop leader, mentoring girls to learn to empower themselves. She was also active at First United Methodist Church of Shelton for over 40 years. Above all else, her most beloved role was of MOM.

Besides her life-long love of photography, Cindy enjoyed reading, gardening, crafting and hanging out with family and friends. Her artistic soul is evident in all she did. She crafted culinary masterpieces, with every meal prepared with love that nourishes not just our bodies but our souls.

Cindy wishes to thank all her doctors, nurses, technicians and volunteers at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Stratford Visiting Nurse Association. Cancer sucks, but the care she received was exceptional. Each professional made her feel like a person, not just a patient.

Cindy’s family will host greeting friends on September 28, 2024 from 11 am to 12:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Shelton, 188 Rocky Rest Road, Shelton, CT. A memorial service to Celebrate her life will begin at 12:00 pm in the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Smilow Cancer Center 5520 Park Avenue Trumbull, CT 06611, Girl Scouts of CT 340 Washington St., Hartford, CT, 06106 or the First United Methodist Church of Shelton.
