David Francis Bishop, age 77, of Derby entered into rest on Saturday, January 2, 2021.
He was born in Derby on December 12, 1943 son of the late Alfred Bishop and Doris (Grinstead) Volonis and was a lifelong Derby resident. David proudly served with the U.S. Navy. He worked for the Derby Post Office for many years until his retirement.
David was a 1961 graduate of Derby High School, where he set the Derby High School jump record in his senior year, a record he held for 54 years. He was a past exalted ruler of the Derby Lodge of Elks, and a past exalted ruler of the state Lodge of Elks.
David was also a member of the Catholic War Veterans, and the A.M. Club of Derby. He was the beloved father of Mandy Blakeslee and her husband Russ, loving grandfather of Russell, Elise, Ryan, Derek and Grace Blakeslee and brother of James Bishop and his wife Agnes. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic his funeral services were private. The Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby has been entrusted with his services.
