David P. Hugya, age 73, a resident of Ansonia for forty years, peacefully entered eternal rest in the early morning hours of August 20, 2024, at Yale-New Haven Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
He was the beloved husband of Janice L. Lemachko Hugya. Dave was born in Bridgeport on July 29, 1951, son of the late William and Margaret Malone Hugya. He was a graduate of Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport in 1969 and shortly afterwards was drafted into the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.
Following his honorable discharge in 1972, he attended Bullard Havens Technical School in Bridgeport earning his barber’s license. Dave was a proud and talented barber as well as co-owner of Head Co. Haircutters in Milford for over forty years. After “retirement,” he continued his career at Woodmont Haircutters for the last several years.
He was an avid reader and member of the Lemko Club in Ansonia, serving as former Treasurer and volunteer handyman whenever something needed fixing.
In addition to his wife Janice, he leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Justin K. Hugya of Ansonia, a daughter, Kara L. Hugya (Jeffrey Milam) of Woodbury, a brother, William D. Hugya of Beacon Falls, sisters, Sharron G. Cuddy, and Marion E. Herb of Beacon Falls, nieces and nephews, Erin Alexander (Daniel) of Beacon Falls, Albert Herb of Beacon Falls, Kristin Lemachko (Robert Mehaffey) of Ansonia, Jamie Leo (Jeremy) of the Amston section of Hebron, CT, Danielle Lemachko (Brianna) of West Haven and Jessica O’Mara (David) of Waterbury, and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and countless loyal customers and lifelong friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia.
