Dennis P. Sharkey, 71, entered into eternal rest on Saturday afternoon January 14, 2017, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved and devoted husband for 46 years to Linda Dube Sharkey.
Dennis was born in Derby on August 29, 1945, son of the late Edward and Lillian Carotenuto Sharkey. A lifelong resident of the Ansonia community, he was employed as a machinist at Ansonia Copper & Brass for over 40 years, until his retirement in 2006. Dennis was a proud 49 year active member of Webster Hose Hook & Ladder Co. # 3 in Ansonia and a member of the Misquamicut Fire District Fire Dept. He was an auxiliary member of Paugassett Hook & Ladder Co. # 4 and the Catholic War Veterans in Derby. Dennis was an Ansonia Pop Warner Football and Ansonia Boy’s and Girl’s Biddy Basketball coach for many years and enjoyed fishing, clamming, collecting sea glass, gardening and especially spending time with his wife at their vacation home in Misquamicut Beach, RI.
In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by a loving son, Jason D. Sharkey (Candace Goy) of E. Patchogue, NY, a loving daughter, Karissa N. Sharkey of Kennebunk, ME, caring brothers, Edward Sharkey (Stas) and Gene Sharkey (Nancy) of Ansonia, cherished granddaughter, Jordyn M. Sharkey, brothers in law, Michael Dube and Robert Davis of Ansonia and several nieces, nephews, friends and fellow firefighters.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday January 19, 2017, from 4 – 8 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Friday, his funeral service will take place at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. James Sullivan officiating. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.
