Dominic C. Constantino

Dominic C. Constantino, 92, of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest on June 19, 2013, in the comfort of his home. He is the beloved husband of Ann E. Zappulla Constantino. 

Mr. Constantino was born in Ansonia on July 25, 1920, son of the late John and Pierina DiClementi Constantino. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific, where he flew to more than 21 different islands as an aerial navigator. He navigated for movie star Tyrone Power and also helped him build a theater on Saipan that was used by the U.S. Marine Corps band.

He served over two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps camps in Litchfield County and central Massachusetts. He was employed at Farrel’s in Ansonia, making gears for ship building, later worked as an auto mechanic for 16 years at auto dealerships throughout the area and retired from Yale University where he worked for 23 years in the physics department as a technical specialist.

While at Yale, he traveled to Stanford University, Fermi Labs in Chicago, Brookhaven Lab in Long Island, Los Alamos in New Mexico and Boston. As a hobby, he recorded music for family and friends, making thousands of tapes and CDs. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church and was extremely proud of being an Ansonia resident. He always supported Ansonia sports teams. 

In addition to his wife Ann, he is survived by two loving sons, John A. Constantino (Jaimie) of Derby and Frederick C. Constantino of Naugatuck, two brothers, John Constantino (Dolores) of Ansonia and Paul Guardiani (Rose) of Prospect and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Victor and Angelo Constantino and Joseph Guardiani.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dominic’s Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday June 22, 2013, at 9:00 am (PLEASE MEET DIRECTLY) at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment with U.S. Marine military honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby. There are no visiting hours. The SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, has been privileged with the arrangements. At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Rosary Church Renovation Fund, 10 Father Salemi Drive, Ansonia, CT 06401.
