Dominick J. Battaglino

Dominick J. Battaglino, 85, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on May 30, 2013, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved and devoted husband of Rose Marie DeRosa Battaglino.

Mr. Battaglino was born in Derby on July 11, 1927, son of the late Dominick and Sadie Valeria Battaglino.

He was employed as a sales manager for Singer Sewing Machine and later was the owner and operator of the former Ansonia Sewing Center until his retirement in 1986.

He honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Dominick was an active and devoted communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. At Holy Rosary, he was an usher at the 9:30 a.m. Mass, member of the Catholic Men’s Club, Holy Rosary Bocce League and committee member of the annual Italian Festa where he served as chairman of the calamari booth since the festival’s inception 47 years ago.

He enjoyed playing cards with the boys” each Thursday morning at the Ansonia Senior Center and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and UConn basketball.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two loving daughters, Joan B. Testa (Anthony) of Ansonia and Donna R. Ferraro (James) of Hamden, two cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Testa of SC and Marisa Testa of Wallingford, a sister in law, Patricia Tinti of Ansonia and several nieces and friends. He was predeceased by sisters, Marie and Carmella Mongillo. 

Visiting hours will be held on SUNDAY from 2 – 5 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Monday, friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral at 10:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia with Rev. Stephen A. Krugel celebrating. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Rosary Church Renovation Fund through the funeral home.
