Donald (Don) E. Kosakowski, Sr., 81, of Oxford, passed away peacefully at home on April 9. He was born February 9, 1944 in Derby, son of the late Edward and Regina Roslon Kosakowski. Don graduated from Ansonia High School, where he was a standout football player and was later inducted into the Ansonia Hall of Fame.
He is a graduate of Sacred Heart University and Southern Connecticut State University. Don or “Mr. K” as his students called him, worked as an elementary and high school teacher in the Seymour Public School System for over thirty years, inspiring countless students. Throughout his life Don enjoyed umpiring, bodybuilding, coaching his children, and watching sports. Don was a devoted fan of the New York Giants, Boston Red Sox, and Yale Bulldogs.
Don was predeceased by his beloved wife Gail (Mariano) Kosakowski. Don is survived by his son Donald Kosakowski Jr., his daughter Stephanie (Matthew) Egensteiner, as well as his grandchildren Emma & Owen Egensteiner, all of Oxford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 16 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Oxford. Burial will be private.
Friends may call on Tuesday evening, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
