Donald H. “Butch” Gavin

Donald H. Butch” Gavin, 79, of Seymour, peacefully entered into eternal rest on April 25, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, at CT Hospice in Branford. He was the beloved husband of Patricia Lotzko Gavin.

Mr. Gavin was born in Shelton on Sept. 13, 1932, son of the late Charles J. and Gertrude Fowler Gavin. He was employed as a mason for Local Union 665 in Bridgeport until his retirement. Butch and his wife were the proud foster parents of 37 children. Butch enjoyed playing cards and was one of the founding members of the Lemko Club in Ansonia.

In addition to his wife Patricia and 37 foster children, he is survived by sons, Donald Gavin of Ansonia, David Gavin of Southington, Kevin Gavin and his wife Michelle of Ansonia and Jaden Gavin of Seymour, daughters, Amy Gavin and Julie Ward of Meriden and Shannon Gavin, Maggie Gavin and Teagan Gavin of Seymour, sisters, Mary DiLisio of FL and Lillian Wannagot of Shelton, mother in law, Marion Honey” Nierintz of Fairfield, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by brothers, Charles and William Gavin and a sister Joan Carrasquillo.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Butch’s funeral service and celebration of his life on Monday April 30, 2012, at 7:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, with Deacon Richard Renker officiating. Visiting hours will be held from 4:00 pm until the service begins. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. The family sends a heart-felt thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of CT Hospice for their extraordinary care and compassion given during Butch’s illness.
