Doris Evelyn (Walters) Bazley, 93, of Naples, FL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Vitas Alzheimer’s Hospice Hospital in Florida surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of William J. Bazley, Sr.
Doris was born on July 15, 1930 in Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT, the youngest child of George and Jennie Walters (Woods). Doris grew up in Shelton, CT and attended public schools where she was an exemplary student.
After graduating from high school, Doris attended Stone Academy and became a bookkeeper. Doris married William J. Bazley, Sr., a graduate of Rollins College in Winter Park, FL, on October 18, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Ansonia, CT. They lived for a short time with Bill’s parents in Ansonia, CT where their first child, Sharon, was born in 1953.
They then moved to her parents’ home in Shelton, CT where their second child, Bill Jr., was born in 1956. Finally, they had a house built in Orange, CT where they lived happily for many years and where their third child, Lynne, was born in 1961. Doris was very busy raising three children and helping her mother and husband at their family business, G.H. Walters Company, a wire forming business that made attachments to metal lunch boxes, electrical attachments for outlets, and some metal jewelry.
Doris and Bill always enjoyed socializing with wonderful friends. They belonged to CHAS (Connecticut Historical Automobile Society) which held monthly meetings at restaurants in the winter and mini-tours and picnics in the spring, summer, and fall around Connecticut. Doris and Bill owned a 1933 Lincoln that they used to go on these outings. They owned a condo in Queechee, VT, enjoying many weekends skiing and golfing in the area near Woodstock, VT.
Doris belonged to the Orange Firehouse Women’s Auxiliary. Bill was a volunteer fireman for 40 years in Orange, CT. They had so much fun being in parades and going to the Fireman’s Ball each year with Doris always fixing a pre-party to start the evening. Doris and Bill loved traveling and besides owning a condo in VT, they belonged to RSI (a timeshare company) and went on numerous trips to England, Germany, Bermuda, and Canada. Doris lent her time and talents to many church events and fundraisers as a member of the United Methodist Church in Ansonia, CT, Orange Congregational Church in Orange, CT, United Congregational Church in Cheshire, CT, and finally at the North Naples Methodist Church in Naples, FL.
Doris was a deeply religious person. Doris is survived by her husband, William J. Bazley, Sr., of 71 years of marriage.
She is also survived by her three children: Sharon Brenneman and her husband Bill, William J. Bazley, Jr. and his wife Christy, Lynne Dorman and her husband, Andy; her nine grandchildren: David Brenneman and his wife, Laura; Rachel Schrecongost and her husband, Mitchell; Kathleen Brenneman and her fiancé, Gian; Bill Bazley, III and his wife, Amy; Stephanie Bazley, Chad Dorman, Jeffrey Dorman and his wife Samantha; Christopher Dorman and his fiancé, Larissa; Abby-Lyn Dorman; her six great-grandchildren: Darcy Brenneman, Zachary and Matthew Schrecongost, Olivia, Harper, and Madison Dorman, and Christopher Dorman.
The family would like to thank all Doris’s caregivers in the later years of her life, especially the doctors, nurses and caregivers who work at Vitas Hospice of Naples, FL. Arrangements- A Christian Memorial service celebrating Doris’s life will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at Jenkins-King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St, Ansonia, CT 06401 from 10:00 a.m. — 12:00 p.m. (calling hours).
The funeral will begin at noon, followed by a procession to the Riverside Cemetery, 308 River Rd, Shelton, CT 06484. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Connecticut Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd. S, #4B, Southington, CT 06489.
