Mrs. Doris Lazzari Shaffer, 82, of Hamden, entered into eternal rest on July 26, in Yale New Haven Hospital. She is the wife of the late Donald R. Shaffer, Jr.
Born in Derby on May 28, 1933, daughter of the late Aldo and Theresa (Banfi) Lazzari, a graduate of Ansonia High School, she was a member of her sorority and was employed as a dental assistant for many years. “Dodie” had a love for all animals, a member of the Humane Society, A.S.P.C.A. and P.A.W.S. of Connecticut. She volunteered at the Cheshire Reformatory to teach reading and her entire life had an unconditional love of family.
Survivors are sister Lillian and her husband Alfred Yanguas of Maryland, sister-in-law Carol and brother-in-law Thomas Query of Boone, North Carolin, many nieces and nephews, as well as grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Donald R. Shaffer, Jr., her parents, Aldo and Theresa Lazzari, and brothers James Lazzari and Robert A. Lazzari.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Bennett Funeral Home, 91 N. Cliff St., Ansonia, CT 06401 and then on Saturday the funeral will leave the funeral home at 9 a.m. to the Church of the Assumption for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. St. Peters Cemetery, Derby, CT.
