Dorn Christopher Dumitre, lost his courageous battle with cancer on February 18, 2025 at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT. He was 76.
Affectionately known as “Kit” to all who loved him, was born and raised in Bridgeport, CT to Virginia and Thomas Dumitre. After graduating from Central High School in Bridgeport, Kit was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He proudly served as a Staff Sergeant while stationed in Germany during that time.
Kit was hard-working, independent, funny, and truly larger than life. He had a booming voice, a laugh that could light up any room, and a personality that drew people to him. He will be deeply missed by those of us who will forever celebrate his charisma, charm, and the joy he brought into our lives.
He had a passion for playing golf and his love of sports, especially the New York Yankees, was legendary. He was always eager to share his enthusiasm (and contempt) with everyone who crossed his path.
Kit dedicated most of his life to the hospitality business, working at iconic spots like the Bon Ton Cafe, Bridgeport Jai Alai, The Patterson Club, The Angus, Testo’s, and most recently at Stormy’s Gastropub in Shelton. His work ethic, sense of humor, and ability to make everyone feel like family left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Kit truly lived life on life’s terms.
Kit was predeceased by his father, Thomas Dumitre and survived by his mother Virginia Dumitre, his loving wife, Debbie Scinto of Shelton; his sister, Elizabeth Lupulio; his brother, Robert Dumitre; his niece, Kristin Frank and her partner Marc Sabo; his nephew, John Lupulio IV, his great-niece and great-nephew, Vivian and Cody, all of Trumbull, his sister-in-law Janet Carrubba of Brookfield, and nephews David and Brian.
His family would like to extend deep gratitude to the caring staff at Griffin Hospital, along with Kit’s friends who supported him during the time of his illness, especially his friend, Luigi Di Palma of Shelton. He loved and appreciated all of you in his own way.
The family will be hosting a celebration of Kit’s life that will be held at Stormy’s Gastropub, 350 Bridgeport Ave, Shelton, on March 23, 2025, from 12:00 – 4:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to share in the memories and joy Kit brought to their lives.
The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd. Shelton, has been entrusted to handle Kit’s cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kit’s memory and sent care of Deborah Scinto-Dumitre, 100 Huntington St, Shelton, CT 06484.
