Dr. Christine Louise Fatterusso, age 49, of Davenport, Florida has passed away from complications of a long-term illness.
Born in 1968 and raised in Derby, Dr. Fatterusso was the daughter of the late Rosaria Forto of Derby and Donald Fatterusso of Ansonia.
She was the youngest of two sisters. She attended Derby High School and graduated with honors in 1986. After graduation, she attended Johnson and Wales University where she achieved a Culinary Arts degree in 1988.
After working several years as a chef, she found she had another calling: to be a doctor.
To achieve this goal, she enrolled in Southern Connecticut State University where she received her undergraduate degree in chemistry. She attended Ross University and achieved her Doctor of Medical Degree.
Christine, a generous and caring person, was known for her avid involvement in U.S. veteran’s services and her work raising money for local animal shelters.
Moving to New Hampshire, she enjoyed her work as the Medical Director of the Veterans Clinic in Littleton, NH.
Even though she enjoyed her medical career, cooking remained her passion. She fulfilled a lifetime dream of owning a restaurant by becoming the proprietor of The Moonbeam Café in Gorham, NH. The successful restaurant later moved to a more spacious location in Lancaster, NH.
In September 2015, plagued by a lifetime of health ailments, she made the decision to take a position at the Orlando Veterans (VA) Medical Center in Lake Nona, Florida.
Christine is predeceased by her mother, Rosaria Forto.
She is survived by her father: Donald Fatterusso, sister; Lisa Hoven Phillips, her two nieces; Rebecca and Lara Hoven, her three step-brothers; Eugene (Joe) Melewski, Thomas Melewski, Mark Melewski and their families, her cousins; Penny Carrubba, Jessica Gilbert and Jason Polmann, her lifetime friends; Gina Chevarella and Kim Gilloren-Destafano.
She is also survived by many extended family and friends.
The memorial service will be held on January 28, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church on Elizabeth St, Derby.
Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery and reception will follow.
