Edward A. Yagovane

Edward A. Yagovane, age 70, of Derby, Connecticut, passed away Sunday April 23, 2017 at Griffin Hospital after a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer with his family by his side.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Lauren Sette Yagovane.

Ed was born on September 14, 1946 to Theodore and Jane Eaton Yagovane, who predeceased him. Edward graduated from Shelton High School in 1963.

To all who knew him, Ed was a most loving and devoted husband and father, always putting others before himself. Although he wore many hats (mostly New York Yankees), Ed had the most generously caring heart and touched countless lives with his presence. Even after his diagnosis, Ed remained resolutely dedicated to friends and family who will always be thankful for the gift that was his life.

For over 50 years, Ed was a vital contributing member of both the Drum Corps and Naugatuck Valley communities. In 1958, Ed kicked off his drum corps career with the Derby Cyclones and then the Bridgeport PAL Cadets. A decade later, Ed joined the Hurricane Drum Corps family. Ed taught junior corps then judged both junior and senior corps as well as local high school marching bands.

Then in the early 1990’s, Ed took on several local leadership roles. He was a member turned President of the Board of Alderman. Ed played an integral part in the closure of the Derby landfill as well as helped in the rebuilding of the recycling program. Also during this time, Ed and his wife Lauren founded the Derby Girls Basketball League and inherited the Derby Girls Softball League to benefit his daughter Kimberly and her friends.

Ed is survived by his daughter Kimberly, sister Joyce, nieces Mia and Amanda Sette, nephews Anthony and Joseph Sette, and Edward and Theodore Jerolman, great-nieces Taylor & Dallas, great-nephew Maximus, mother-in-law Rose Marie Sette, brothers-in-law Michael, John, and Joseph Sette, and sister-in-law Cynthia Sette. Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Yagovane, as well as his father-in-law Anthony Bud” Sette.

Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton on Thursday from 3 to 7 PM. On Friday a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM directly at the Church of the Assumption, 61 N Cliff Street in Ansonia. Entombment will follow at Mt. St. Peter’s Garden Mausoleum.
