Edward J. LaRovera, 90, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 26, 2013, at Shady Knoll Health Care in Seymour. He was the beloved husband of the late Rose Blancato LaRovera.
Mr. LaRovera was born in Ansonia on April 27, 1922, son of the late Joseph and Celia Marinelli LaRovera. A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he was employed as a machinist at Farrel Corporation in Ansonia and Derby for 45 years until his retirement.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, having honorably served during WW 2 aboard the U.S.S. Buchanan.
He was a recipient of the prestigious Purple Heart Medal for his injuries received during combat.
Ed was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the Catholic Men’s Club and Knights of Columbus at Holy Rosary and a member of the Ansonia and Derby Senior Centers.
He was a self-taught artist who enjoyed painting.
He is survived by a loving son, Joseph E. LaRovera (Dianne) of Seymour, two loving daughters, Celia Lungarini (Richard) of Ansonia and Joyce Seccombe of Derby, five grandchildren, James and Jeffrey Polis, Alicia Seccombe, Alexandra and Jake LaRovera, 3 great-grandchildren, Madden Polis, Jeffrey Polis Jr. and Mia Rose Polis and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Dominick, Thomas and Joseph LaRovera and sisters, Mary Cannata, Sue Borc, Loretta Cascone, Carmela Lopresti and Clara Laurella.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday February 28, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia.
On Friday, friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia.
