Edward J. Maciejko

Edward J. Maciejko, 83, of Seymour, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday morning, July 28, 2011, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA, surrounded by his loving children. He was the beloved husband of the late Irene B. Gorecki Maciejko for 47 years.

Mr. Maciejko was born in Worcester, MA on Feb. 3, 1928, son of the late John and Pauline Butrym Maciejko. At the age of two, when the depression years came, he and his family returned to their native village of Lazduny, Poland. As a teenager during WW II, he entered the Polish Underground to defend his family & country against the German & Russian invaders. He returned to the U.S. in 1947, and joined the National Guard. In 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was sent to Germany and attended European Command Intelligence School. His knowledge of seven languages proved to be invaluable in his role. After his discharge during the Korean War, he rejoined the National Guard and proudly served with the 102nd Infantry until his retirement. He attended many military leadership courses at Junior & Senior Non-Commission Officers Academy. He retired with numerous awards at the rank of Master Sergeant, (E‑8), after proudly serving his country for 30 years, 1 month, and 21 days”. A resident of Seymour since 1958, he was employed by B.F. Goodrich and retired from Seymour Specialty Wire. Although his education was limited due to the wars, Edward proudly completed the requirements for his G.E.D. in 1976. He had a strong faith in God and was a devoted communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Ansonia. He faithfully sang in the choir for over 60 years. Edward was a member of the Polish Falcons Nest 212 in Ansonia, Polish Legion of American Veterans U.S.A. Post 215, V.F.W. Post 7330 in Oakville, and American Legion Post 10 in Seymour. He enjoyed traveling, music, Polka dancing, playing pinochle, beer making, and especially spending time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by everyone whose lives he touched and his hard work and courage will never be forgotten.

He is survived by a son, Robert E. Maciejko and his wife Bonnie of Oxford, two daughters, Mary Jane Cuzzupe and her husband Robert of N. Grafton, MA and Susan Maciejko of S. Glastonbury, CT, seven cherished grandchildren, Valerie, Cassandra, and Michael Pastorelle, Christopher and Mary Teresa Cuzzupe, and Kirsten and Matthew Maciejko, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Stanley and Boleslaw Maciejko and a sister Josephine Sudol.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Monday, August 1, 2011, at 12:15 pm from the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Church in Ansonia. Interment with US Army military honors will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Derby. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 1 – 4 pm.
