Edward John Scully, age 93, of Shelton, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Griffin Hospital in Derby with family beside him. He was the beloved husband of the late Bernadette (Kavanagh) Scully. Edward was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 5, 1930, son of the late Edward John and Ruth (Kunz) Scully.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 28 years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and later completed a second degree in Project Engineering from Oklahoma State. Edward had a long career as a Project Engineer for Sikorsky Aircraft until his retirement in 1992.
He was a diehard fisherman and enjoyed traveling, watching sports, working in his yard and piloting his lawn tractor. Above all else he loved spending time with his family.
He is the beloved father of Christine Cass (Jon), Patricia Scully (Michael Curtin), Kevin Scully (Raquel), Douglas Scully, Margaret Scully, and Matthew Scully (Susan). He leaves thirteen cherished grandchildren, Dylan Cass (Letty), Andrew Wagner Cass (Samantha), Matthew Cass, Mikayla Scout Curtin, Brooklyn Curtin, Piper Curtin, Grace Scully, Olivia Scully, Zachary Cyr-Scully, Alexandra Cyr-Scully, Connor Scully, Madeline Scully, and Ryan Scully, and two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Reagan Cass. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Nancy Campbell (John), and his nieces and nephews, John, Margaret Mary, Christian, and Laura. Edward was predeceased by a son, Mark Scully, and a daughter, Jennifer Scully.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Sunday Jan. 28 from 2 to 5 PM. His procession will leave the funeral home on Monday at 10:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Margaret Mary Church in Shelton. Burial with full military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
