Edward Joseph Charest

Edward Joseph Charest, age 94, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 19, 2020, at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of seventy-two years to Elsie Cateon Charest. 

Mr. Charest was born in Fall River, MA on August 24, 1926, son of the late Jean-Baptiste and Aurora Lemay Charest. He was a self-employed carpenter and enjoyed stamp and coin collecting and bowling. 

In addition to his wife Elsie, he is survived by a loving son, Alan E. Charest (Margaret Anderson) of Seymour, loving daughters, Anne Marie Ilardi (Joseph) of Ansonia, Deborah Lee (Charlie) of FL, Karen Dube Ouellette (Dana) of Meriden and Joanmarie Balisciano (Phil) of Ansonia, a brother, Bertrand Charest (Ann) of MA, a sister, Margaret Fennelly of MA, cherished grandchildren, Carrie Ann McDougall, Lisa James, Rachel Edwards, Jennifer Anderson, Michael Ilardi, Aimee Jaquez, Lianne Ramia, Peter Doria, Megan Jalbert, James Dube and Brian Dube, great-grandchildren, Jiorja, Alexander, Arabella, Anica, Isabella, Michael, Caleigh, William, Jack, Alexis, Kailey and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Edward Charest, grandson, Edward Joseph Doria, brothers, Norman and Lionel Charest and sisters, Lena White Sawick, Pauline Fitzgerald Omen and Georgette Doucette. The family sends a heart-felt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of Yale-New Haven Hospital, especially the Neuroscience Unit and Vitas Healthcare. 

A walk-through visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday September 23, 2020, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Visitors are asked to wear masks and social distance as they walk through, pay their respects and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through. At 7:00 pm, a funeral service in celebration of Edward’s life will take place with Rev. Jeffrey Gubbiotti officiating. Burial will be private.
