Edward Stanley Jaksina

The Reverend Edward Stanley Jaksina age 92, Former Pastor of the Church of the Good Shepherd Seymour entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 11, 2022 at his residence in New Britain. 

Father Jaksina was born in New Britain CT on September 15, 1929 the beloved son of the late Alexander J. and Anna Catherine Stygar Jaksina. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary School K‑3, Benjamin Franklin Elementary School 4 – 6, Washington Junior High School 7 – 9, New Britain Senior High School 10 – 12, Holy Cross College, Worcester, MA for 1 yr, St. Thomas Seminary Bloomfield, CT for 1 yr, St. Bernard Seminary for 6 yrs. He was ordained May 19, 1955 at St. Joseph Cathedral Hartford, CT by Archbishop Henry J. O’Brien. He celebrated his 60th year as a priest in 2015. 

Father Jaksina’s first assignment effective September 17, 1955 was as assistant pastor at St. Adalbert parish in Thompsonville from 1955 – 1958. He became assistant pastor at St. Agnes Church in the Woodmont section of Milford on September 20, 1958 and served there until September of 1960 and then he went on to become the assistant at S.S. Peter and Paul parish in Wallingford on September 17, 1960 until 1964. While at S.S. Peter and Paul parish in Wallingford he helped to found the Wallingford Boys Club. Father Jaksina then went to St. Mary parish in Torrington on January 18, 1964 until 1972. At the same time he was appointed to the Human Relations Committee in Torrington. Father Jaksina also had a temporary assignment at St. Justin parish in Hartford in June of 1972. 

On April 13, 1973 he became co-pastor in St. Stanislaus parish in Meriden until 1979. From 1979 ‑1986 he was an assistant at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Seymour. He became co-pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Church of Woodbridge from 1986 – 1992. He returned to the Church of the Good Shepherd in 1992 and was appointed pastor on July 1, 1994. 

He is survived by his special dear friends Frank and Sheri Parda of Shelton, his loving caretaker Janusz Kalita of New Britain, and several loving cousins. He was predeceased by his two brothers Alexander S. Jaksina and Robert Jaksina, his sister-in-law Jeanne Jaksina and his cousin Dorothy Wojtusik 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Nicholas Parish- Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Rd. Seymour with the Most Reverend Leonard Blair, Archbishop of Hartford as principal celebrant. Father Jaksina will Lie In State at the Church from 9:00 A.M. — 10:45 A.M. on Wednesday, February 16 , 2022. 

A Reception will be held following the Mass in The Martin T. Keane Church Hall. Interment will take place immediately following the Mass in Sacred Heart Cemetery New Britain. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts in Father Edward S. Jaksina’s memory may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd Improvement Fund.
