Edward (“Ted” ) Scott Sylvia, age 46, of Shelton, entered into rest on Sunday, January 8, 2023, after a brief illness. Ed was born in Bridgeport, the son of Edward Roland Sylvia and the late Teresa (Wright) Sylvia. Ed graduated from St. Joseph High School and Housatonic Community College with an Associate Degree in Business Administration. He was a self-employed professional interior and exterior painter.
In his younger years, he was a proud Shelton Little League All Star and played baseball for the SJHS Cadets. Ed was an avid golfer, competed in a dart league, and enjoyed watching all sports, especially when keeping track of the Michigan Wolverines and the Green Bay Packers with his nephew Ryan. He had many loyal and lifelong friends and shared countless memories with them over the years. Most of all, he cherished celebrating the holiday traditions with his nieces and nephew. He earnestly searched for the pickle, competing against Ryan each Christmas Eve, agreed to, and then carved Camryn’s incredibly intricate jack-o-lantern designs for Halloween, and colored Easter eggs like a champ with Schuyler.
He was predeceased by his beloved mother and best friend, Terry Sylvia. Ed is survived by his father, Ed Sylvia, sister, Shelley Sylvia Tomey and her husband Mark, of Shelton, his paternal uncle and aunt, Robert and Mary Sylvia, his father Ed’s longtime companion, Pamela Matto, devoted and treasured family friend, Ellie Letsch, best friends Fred Bonadio, Ralph Bonadio, and Vinny Esposito, and cousins, Tim Driscoll, Andrea Ronkese, Bobby (Jen) Sylvia and Justin (Liz) Sylvia.
He was lovingly known as “always the best kid at the kid’s table” and was the beloved uncle of Schuyler (21), Ryan (19), and Camryn (15) Tomey. Uncle Teddy’s Lego building skills were legendary, and he shared many hours with Ryan building epic Star War’s Lego creations. He shared in his nieces’ and nephew’s hobbies, sports, and milestone events and will live on forever in the Tomey kids’ memories and future adventures. He was adored, and he was their best friend, playmate, and confidant.
Family and friends may call on Saturday morning, January 14, 2023, from 9:30 – 11:00 AM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. His funeral service will follow at the parlor at 11:00 AM.
