Edward W. Sweet

Edward W. Sweet, age 88, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather, passed away on July 28, 2023. Edward left behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unforgettable memories filled with laughter. Edward was born in Hudson, NY on October 23, 1934, son of the late Floyd and Agnes Wilkerson Sweet. 

His expression of love and compassion began when he met the love of his life, Sybil Meshew Sweet, committing 66 years of marriage together. He is the proud father of Bryan E. Sweet (Susan) of Valatie, NY, Clayton E. Sweet (Katie Cerreto) of Seymour, CT, Sharon A. Koulback (James) of Aurora, IL, and Veronica S. Guillet (Mark) of Beacon Falls, CT.

However, nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his grandchildren. His grandchildren include, Melyssa Sweet (Alex Denny) of Burlington, VT, Emily Sweet of Boston, MA, Megan Sweet of Valatie, NY, Victoria Larowe (Nathan), Alexandria Guillet, Jaydyn Guillet and Emmalee Fay Guillet of Beacon Falls, CT, Brianna Koulback and Jason Koulback of Aurora, IL, and Bailey Ovesny of Seymour, CT, and great-grandson, Savien Larowe of Beacon Falls, CT. He also leaves to cherish his memory, a brother, Robert G. Sweet of S. Windsor, CT. Brothers, Floyd, John, Richard and Roger Sweet, predeceased him.

Beyond his family, he was employed by the United Illuminating Company in Bridgeport for forty-three years. He was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Beacon Falls and a member of the Gaelic American Club of Fairfield. Ed was an avid sports fan (GO BIG BLUE) loved golfing, and never backed down from a grandchild’s sporting challenge, even lawn jarts.” Ed coached girls’ basketball at St. James in Stratford and loved His UCONN Girls.” Of Ed’s many endearing qualities, his sense of humor and wit will be remembered the most. 

Family and friends are invited to attend Edward’s funeral on Friday August 4, 2023, at 12:00 noon at Saint Michael’s Church, 25 Maple Avenue in Beacon Falls, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Inurnment will take place at the convenience of the family in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull.
