Elizabeth “Betsy” Jane White (nee Johnson) of Seymour passed away peacefully and prayerfully on September 11, 2017 after a long illness.
She was born on February 4, 1943 to the late Philip and Mildred Johnson in Norwood, MA. She is survived by her devoted husband, David White, with whom she shared 50 years of love, laughter and affectionate bickering.
Her talents included painting, cooking and positive thinking. She often said “I have been blessed with the gift of acceptance”; and this gift was evident throughout her life and journey with Multiple Sclerosis. She will be remembered by her sense of humor and brilliant smile, which no disease or hardship could dim.
Her legacy includes two children, Scott White of Monroe and Aimee White-Charles of Fairfield; and their partners Jennifer McCoy and Stephen Charles, who she treated as her own. There was no greater joy to Betsy than her grandchildren, both those of choice (Courtney and Carter McCoy) and of blood (Lillian White-Charles.)
She is also survived by a sister, Shirley Towne of Falmouth, MA; sisters-in-law Karen Johnson of Bellingham, MA and Sally Wadleigh of Ipswich, MA; and brother-in-law Robert White and his wife, Cindy, of Vernon, CT. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews all professing she was their favorite aunt; countless loyal and loving friends that she collected and cherished along the way; and several adult “kids” who she did not birth but loved like she had, earning the nickname “Mama Betsy.”
In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her beloved in-laws Joseph and Lillian White; and her siblings Philip Johnson, Jr., David Johnson, and Barbara Johnson.
A celebration of Betsy’s life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23rd at 11:30 a.m. at The Great Hill United Methodist Church, 225 Great Hill Rd, Seymour, CT 06483. The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, is entrusted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to her church.
