Elizabeth (Karpinowich) Tyszka, 94, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on April 4, 2012, in the comfort of her home. She was the devoted wife of 58 years to the late Joseph E. Tyszka Sr.
Mrs. Tyszka was born in Derby on March 26, 1918, daughter of Russian immigrants Wasil and Helen Novinsky Karpinowich. Early in her career, she was elected the first woman President of the Valley Chamber of Commerce. At that time, she and her husband owned the Warsaw Package Store, Edward’s Men’s Shoppe and Tyszka Hardware Store in downtown Ansonia. She was a very loving person who greeted everyone she met with a genuine smile, unconditional love, a warm hug, and unlimited kindness. She suffered for many years with illness but it never masked the inward and outward beauty she possessed. Elizabeth loved to needlepoint and would proudly show her works of art to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. An encounter with “Betty” left one with a feeling of appreciation for life and the good in all people.
She is survived by sons, Joseph (Rose), Michael (Debbie), Frank (Paula), Richard (Julie) and daughters, Betty Ann LaRue, and Helen Anastasio (Robert), a sister, Nancy Krupa, 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved son Edward, who was killed in action during the Vietnam Conflict. She was also predeceased by a brother, Michael Karpinowich, sisters, Katherine Ansonoff, May Saffo, Ann Pawlak, Helen Poliferno, Theresa Ott, and Walga Cyr.
Relatives and friends may call on Monday, April 9, 2012, from 4 – 7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Betty’s Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 am (PLEASE MEET DIRECTLY) at St. Joseph Church in Ansonia.
