Elizabeth M. Koenig, age 86, peacefully entered eternal rest on February 4, 2025, at Geer Village Nursing & Rehab in Canaan, CT.
Elizabeth was born in Mount Vernon, NY on Feb. 28, 1938, daughter of the late Philip and Catherine Ernau Koenig. She was a lifelong resident of Derby before moving to Goshen five years ago to be with her nephew Andrew Koenig and niece Heidi Koenig.
Elizabeth attained her bachelor’s degree from Southern CT Teacher’s College in 1958 and her master’s degree from UConn in 1959. She was a talented and gifted school teacher for the Oxford Board of Education for thirty-five years, until her retirement. She was nominated and awarded the title of “Who’s Who Among American Teachers” in 1998.
Elizabeth was a true animal lover, especially her cats. Musically inclined, she played the flute, was an avid reader and enjoyed being part of a book sharing group.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a brother, John Koenig (Ruth) of N. Chesterfield, VA, nephews, John Koenig (Kathleen) of Savannah, GA, and Andrew Koenig (Heidi) of Goshen, a niece, Robin Patterson (Bruce) of Chester, VA, a cousin, Gary Orlowski (Leslie) of Guilford and several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Saturday February 8, 2025 from 9:00 to 11:00 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 11:00 am, a funeral service in celebration of Elizabeth’s life will take place with Deacon Victor Lembo officiating.
