Eugene D. Micci, Former Derby Mayor

Eugene D. Micci of North Haven, CT, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 5, 2021 with his beloved family by his side. He was born on August 17, 1945 in Derby, CT to the late Guerino Micci and Elizabeth Rondini Micci and remained an active member of the Derby community his entire life.

Gene was a force of nature who accomplished everything he set out to do in his 76 years. He was the first person in his family to attend college, graduating from Fairfield University in 1967 cum laude and Boston University Law School in 1970. He was a member of the Connecticut Bar Association for over 50 years and worked in private law practice until his final days.
In 1972, he was elected Mayor of Derby, an office he held for two terms.

He served as the Legislative Commissioner for the State of Connecticut from 1976 to 1988. He was a Director on the Board of the former Housatonic Bank and Trust and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the former Derby Savings Bank. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Adriatic Marchegiana Club of Derby.

An avid sports fan, two of Gene’s best days were attending the 1993 Kentucky Derby to see his horse Silver of Silver compete, and watching his favorite Chicago Cubs win the 2016 World Series with his son and best friend, Christopher.

Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann McIntyre; daughter, Elizabeth Micci; son Christopher Micci (Jaclyn Sampietro); sister, Adrienne Micci-Smith (Al Smith); two brothers, Robert Micci (Anne Micci) and Matthew Micci (Anna Micci); several nieces and nephews; and more friends than he could count. He was predeceased by his brother, Andrew.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at http://www.stjude.org or Derby’s volunteer fire department, Paugassett Hook and Ladder Company 4 (Derby City Hall, 1 Elizabeth Street, Derby CT 06418, Mark Donations for Paugasset Hook and Ladder Company 4).
