Ernest J. DiStasi Sr.

Ernest J. DiStasi Sr., 96, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on July 4, 2013, at Hewitt Health & Rehab in Shelton. He was the beloved and devoted husband of Concetta Grace” Montefusco DiStasi.

Mr. DiStasi was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 4, 1917, son of the late Anthony and Rose DiStasi. He began his career as a hairdresser and barber on Wall Street in New York City. A resident of Ansonia since 1950, he was the owner of Ernie’s Hair Styling Salon in Ansonia for 35 years, until his retirement in 1986. A veteran of WW II, he honorably served in the US Army Air Corps as a surgical technician.

Ernie was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia and a member of its C.M.C. and Bocce League. He was recently recognized as the oldest member of the Derby Elks Lodge # 571 and was also a member of the Ansonia Senior Center, where he enjoyed playing pool. He was an avid fan of the NY Yankees and NY Giants and was most proud of his loving family.

In addition to his wife Grace, he is survived by a son, Ernest J. DiStasi Jr. (Laura) of Seymour, a daughter, Rosann Lizza (Carmine) of Derby, four cherished grandchildren, Nicole C. Ostrowski (William) of Ansonia, Joseph C. Lizza of Derby, Ernest T. DiStasi of Seymour, Eric A. DiStasi Sr. (Dawn) of Seymour, three great-grandsons, Jason M. Ostrowski, Eric Cino” DiStasi and Leo E. DiStasi and several nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Monday July 8, 2013, at 11:00 am (PLEASE MEET DIRECTLY) at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with U.S. Army military honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby. There will be no public visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ernie’s name may be made to the Assumption School, 51 N. Cliff St., Ansonia, CT 06401. The SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, has been privileged with the arrangements.
