Estelle D. D’Alessio

Estelle D. D’Alessio, age 95, of Derby entered into rest on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Sacred Heart Manor. 

She was born in Derby on September 6, 1921, daughter of the late Michael and Rose (Romano) D’Alessio and was a lifetime resident of Derby. 

Estelle was the Valedictorian of her Derby High School Class of 1939. During WWII Estelle worked for War Production Board. She was the secretary to the Product Manager in Sponge Rubber Products later known as B.F. Goodrich, she was a secretary and court reporter for the Intelligence Division of the Internal Revenue Service, and was the secretary and office manager in her brother George’s accounting office. She also was a salesperson at Macy’s and Reeds Department Store. 

Estelle was a member of the St. Mary’s Church Choir, Valley Ecumenical Choir, Ecumenical Christian Cantata Choir, St. Mary’s Ladies Guild and the Derby and Shelton Senior Centers. She volunteered at Griffin Hospital Gift Shop and Medical Library and the Kindergarten at Irving School for many years and St. Mary’s Annual Church Festival. Estelle was honored as Women Making a Difference in the Valley for her volunteer achievements and she was honored by the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. 

She is survived by her nieces Sister Anne D’Alessio ASCJ, Rosemary D’Alessio, Dr. Charlene Brock and Jean Hirschmann and four grandnephews and a grandniece. Estelle is predeceased by two brothers, Dr. Charles and George D’Alessio, and three sisters, Theresa D’Alessio, Inez D’Alessio and Louise Biela. 

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. On Thursday, her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church. Her burial will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery.
