Eugene Perry Perkins Sr., 84, of Derby, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday morning, April 5, 2011, at the Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Frances Clapes Perkins.
Mr. Perkins was born in Westwood, CA on May 22, 1926, son of the late Jack and Alice Perry Perkins. He was the owner and operator of Gene Perkins & Sons Construction in Ansonia for many years and prior was employed at Schick Razor in Milford. Gene proudly and honorably served for 3 years in the Canadian Army and 4 years in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was an avid fisherman, a member of the Masons, American Legion, National Rifle Association, and Past President of the Derby-Shelton Lion’s Club.
He is survived by a son, William Perkins of Ansonia, 2 daughters, Kimberly Burns and her husband Daniel of Oxford and Linda Filippelli and her husband Ralph of Orange, a sister Joyce Nolan and her husband Robert of Shelton, 7 grandchildren, Melissa Perkins of Derby, Kristin Perkins, Ralph DePino, and Jennifer DePino of Seymour, Ralph Filippelli of Clinton, Michael Filippelli of Orange, and Kellie Perkins of Milford, 2 great-grandsons, Devin Perkins of Milford and Evan Palyo of Seymour, and several nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son Eugene Perkins Jr., a daughter, Jacqueline DePino, and a grandson, Eugene Perkins III.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral service and celebration of his life on Thursday, April 7, 2011, at 7:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, with the Rev. Leonard Kvedas officiating. Following the service, Army military honors will be accorded. Private burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Riverside Cemetery in Shelton. Visiting hours will take place on Thursday from 4:00 pm until the service begins.
