Francis Leonard Cook, age 67, of Shelton entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Suffield House in Suffield, CT after a battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter L. Cook Sr. and Elizabeth E. (Zaskalicky) Cook, and his brother Walter L. Cook, Jr.
“Fran”, “Frank”, “Cookie” spent his life in Shelton and was a 1965 graduate of Shelton High School, where he was near the top of his class and scoring nearly perfect on the SATs. He majored in Chemical Engineering while attending the University of Connecticut. He worked at Nichols Engineering (Lord Corporation) classified as a Tool & Die Maker and was involved with all phases of the company’s operation. He finished his working career with Tech Mold Industries.
An avid outdoorsman, he particularly enjoyed his time boating and fishing on the Housatonic River and Long Island Sound, trips to Vermont during the 70’s to 90’s, and Connecticut State Forests. Later, he enjoyed the open space of Osbornedale Park and Shelton Reservoir #3, watching for birds of the area. He was also an avid reader and was well versed in military history, science, and the outdoors.
He is survived by five siblings; Nancy Geissler (Jim), Thomas R. Cook (Mikki), Laura J. Cook, John R. Cook (Gwen), and Liz Sansom (Doug), Uncle Michael Zaskalicky (Patricia), and cousins near and far.
Calling hours will be Friday, August 21, 2015 from 4 to 6:30 Pm at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. Friends may also call at the funeral home on Saturday at 8:45 AM before a celebration of Frank’s Life begins at 9:15 AM. Burial to immediately follow at Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby.
