Frank Oliva, age 87, has moved on into the afterlife to reunite with his wife Mary Caravaggio Oliva and his son Michael Oliva.
He passed peacefully on June 4th, 2015 with the love of his family surrounding him.
Frank was born in Bridgeport on September 26th, 1927 to his parents Angelo and Vincenza Oliva. Since then he has lived through it all. From surviving the Great Depression, to serving our country in World War II, to convincing an entire beach filled with people that he and his son had caught a whale using a small fishing pole, Frank has seen the world through wanderlust eyes.
Frank was a long time Derby resident and enjoyed traveling, fishing, telling stories, and being with his family. His open mind, loving heart, and infectious smile attracted strangers and neighbors from all around to join him in laughter.
He worked at the Derby Municipal Parking Garage, and was an usher at St. Jude’s Church in Derby.
Frank is the beloved father of Joseph Oliva, Phyliss Greco and her Husband Ed, and the late Michael Oliva. He is the brother of Antoinette Blake, Mary Oliva, and the late Pasquale Oliva. He is the cherished grandfather of Jaime, Kristin, Frank (Dana), and Corey (Diana), and the loving great grandfather of Taylor, Anna Marie, and Kyle.
He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and amazing memories that his family will cherish forever.
Friends may greet his family on Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM with a funeral service with full military honors at 7 pm in the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home 253 Elizabeth Street Derby.
